I have recently begun a BBSRC-funded studentship that links research
programmes of the Geomicrobiology group at SEAES and the biocatalysis
group at the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre. The aim of this
project is to develop a novel whole cell biocatalyst for commercially
important biotransformations, and necessitates working at the interface
between biology and the physical sciences, including molecular biology,
organic chemistry, microbial physiology and nano-scale materials
characterization.
